Aurélie Maestre
Aurélie Maestre studied art at the Université de Provence. She was a successful candidate, and majorated at the competitive entrance to the ENSAD in Paris (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs), which she left in 1998, a graduate in scenography.
After graduating she mainly worked until 2003 at the design office of the Festival d’art lyrique d’Aix en Provence as an assistant stage designer where she cooperated with Peter Pabst, Richard Peduzzi and Saburo Teshigawara, among others.
Thereafter she worked in France, Spain and Italy as a stage design assistant especially with Y.Kokkos, N.Ginefri, and G.Frigeni. She created her first set design in 2001 for the play The Seagull (Tchekov) created at the Théâtre national de Bretagne, staged by Philippe Calvario. She worked with him once again for the play Roberto Zucco (Koltès) at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, and then this show was played once more at the Drama Theatre in Ljubljana. Afterwards she undertook designing the set of Macbeth (Shakespear), staged by Arny Berry at Theatre13 in Paris.
In 2014, with ‘La compagnie des petits champs’, she created the set design of the play Voyage en Uruguay (Hervieu-Léger) staged by Daniel San Pedro at CNDC of Chateauvallon. Later on, in 2015, she undertook the staging of Monsieur de Pourceaugnac (Molière), staged by Clément Hervieu Léger at the theatre of Caen, coproduced by Les Bouffes du Nord. Lately, she has created the set design of Pays Lointain (Lagarce) at the Theatre National de Stasbourg staged, once again, by Clément Hervieu-Léger.
In 2016 ‘L’Opéra Comique’ realised an Operaweb called Le mystère de l’écureuil bleu staged by Ivan Grimberg, of which she undertook the stage design.
She met Vincent Huguet in Aix en Provence during the creation of Elektra by Patrice Chéreau. Her first association with him as a stage designer was at the Opéra de Bordeaux in 2016 for a play called Les voyages de Don Quichotte (Massenet), the opening show of the season. Later on she created the set design of Les histoires sacrées by Charpentier with the group Correspondances led by Sebastien Daucet, then, in 2017 La Vie Parisienne (Offenbach) at the Opera de Bordeaux, followed by Werther (Massenet) at the Stadttheater of Klagenfurt in Austria.
Lately she has created the staging of Dido and Aeneas (Purcell) at the festival of Aix en Provence and she also undertook the staging of Romeo et Juliet by Gounod at the Opera of Lucerne. In due course she has for project to work once again with Vincent Huguet at the Opera in order to create a staging of the opera Die Frau ohne Schatten (Strauss) at the Opera de Vienne, as well as the staging of Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Offenbach) at the opera of Bordeaux as well as that Manon at Opera Bastille in Paris.
