She studied at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. While still a student, she began performing on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. She has a wide-ranging repertoire. Fricka Die Walküre at Los Angeles Opera, Didon Les Troyens at the Mariinsky Theatre, at Carnegie Hall, Tokyo's Suntory Hall, the Edinburgh Festival and the Vienna Konzerthaus under the baton of Valery Gergiev, Dalila Samson et Dalila and Laura La Gioconda at the Rome Opera, Ascanio Benvenuto Cellini at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées with Valery Gergiev, Amneris Aida at Milan’s La Scala with Gianandrea Noseda, at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the Salzburg Festival with Riccardo Muti, Azucena Il Trovatore at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia with Zubin Mehta, at Milan’s La Scala, at London’s Royal Opera House and the Paris Opera, the title role in Carmen at the Verona Arenas (released on DVD), Giovanna Seymour Anna Bolena at the Vienna Staatsoper and, more recently, at Bordeaux Opera, Eboli Don Carlo at the Salzburg Festival (released on DVD) and at Milan’s La Scala, Federica Luisa Miller at the San Francisco Opera, Lady Macbeth Macbeth at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia and in Los Angeles (released on DVD), Amneris Aída at the San Francisco Opera, Marina Boris Godunov, Santuzza Cavalleria rusticana and Verdi Requiem at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Principessa di Bouillon Adriana Lecouvreur at the Mariinsky Theatre, the Baden-Baden Festival and the Verbier Festival (with Valery Gergiev), Cavalleria rusticana in San Francisco.
Ekaterina Semenchuk also performs in concert: Verdi’s Requiem with Gustavo Dudamel, James Levine, James Gaffigan, Valery Gergiev, etc., Mahler’s Das Klagende Lied at the Ravinia Festival with James Conlon, Berlioz’s La Mort de Cléopâtre at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Luzern Festival, Rossini’s Giovanna d’Arco in Luzern, Mahler’s Symphonies n°2, 3 and 8, Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust and Les Nuits d’été and Ravel’s Shéhérazade. She also performs in recitals in concert halls like the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Mariinsky Concert Hall, etc. On CD she has recorded the role of Amneris Aída (Warner Classics), a recital of Russian melodies (Harmonia Mundi), Oedipus Rex with Valery Gergiev, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony (Sony Classical) and works by Sarti (Sony Classical).
