Lukas Jakobski
Born in Poland, Lukas Jakobski was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden from 2009 until 2011 when his roles included Pietro in Verdi Simon Boccanegra, Tall Englishman in Prokofiev The Gambler, King Aida and Angelotti Tosca.
Opera plans this season and beyond include returning to The Royal Opera to sing Pistola in Verdi Falstaff; Voice of Neptune in Mozart Idomeneo for Opéra National de Lyon; roles in Verdi Macbeth for Dutch National
Opera; in concert, Truffaldino in Strauss Ariadne auf Naxos with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and in his debut at Theater an der Wien, Hobson in Britten Peter Grimes. Lukas will also sing in Stravinsky Pulcinella with the Ulster Orchestra. Roles at The Royal Opera, Covent Garden have included Pistola Falstaff, Greek Captain Les Troyens and Don Profundo Il viaggio a Reims and for Glyndebourne on Tour, Colline
La Bohème and Zuniga Carmen.
He has appeared at Drottningholms Slottsteater singing Nettuno, Tempo and Antinoo in Monteverdi Il Ritorno d’Ulisse; has sung Don Basilio Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Grange Park Opera; Pietro Simon Boccanegra and Abbot in Britten Curlew River for Opéra National de Lyon; Tall Englishman The Gambler and La Cuisinière in Prokofiev The Love for Three Oranges for Netherlands Opera; Polyphemus Acis and Galatea with Christian Curnyn at the Iford Festival and has toured in Britten Church Parables with Mahogany Opera, the Aurora Orchestra and Roger Vignoles including St Petersburg, Buxton Festival, Southwark Cathedral and Aldeburgh Festival. Lukas has also recently sung in concert, Panthée and Narbal in Berlioz Les Troyens (Act V) with the London Symphony Orchestra and Valery Gergiev and Herald in Verdi Otello, also with the LSO and Sir Colin Davis.
Other concerts have included Bach St Matthew Passion (Christus) with Reinhard Goebel and the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague; St John Passion (arias) with Stephen Layton and Polyphony in London; St Matthew Passion (arias) with the Choir of King’s College Cambridge and Stephen Cleobury and with The Dunedin Consort and John Butt; Handel La Resurrezione and Bach St Matthew Passion (Christus) for the London Handel Festival at Wigmore Hall; Mozart Requiem in Trondheim with Richard Egarr; Messiah with the Irish Baroque Orchestra and the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Finland; Solomon with the Kymi Sinfonietta and Polyphemus at the London Handel Festival, conducted by Laurence Cummings. Lukas’ repertoire also includes Verdi Requiem, Beethoven Symphony No 9 and Mozart Coronation Mass.
Lukas began his musical training as a bassoonist before studying singing at the Academy of Music in Poznan. In 2004 he moved to London to study at the Royal College of Music with Graeme Broadbent and awards during this time include the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary and Concordia Serena Nevill Award.
