Dawid Kimberg was born in Johannesburg and later moved to London to study at the Royal College of Music (with Ryland Davies) and the National Opera Studio. He was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House from 2009-11, also representing South Africa in the 2009 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.

Engagements last season included a critically acclaimed Masetto Don Giovanni (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden); Ned Keene Peter Grimes (Deutsche Oper am Rhein); Plutone Orfeo at London’s Barbican under Richard Egarr; his debut with the Residentie Orkest in the Netherlands singing Bach’s St Matthew Passion; and Dr Falke Die Fledermaus for Bolshoi Opera. Plans in 14/15 include the title role of Owen Wingrave for the Théâtre du Capitole, Toulouse, and Belcore L’elisir d’amore for Festival Opera New Zealand.

Other recent roles include Leuthold in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano (recorded live for EMI Classics); Guglielmo Così fan tutte (Opera Holland Park); Conte Le nozze di Figaro and Moralès Carmen (both Glyndebourne Touring Opera); Mr. Gedge Albert Herring (Théâtre du Capitole, Toulouse); Jochanaan Salome (Singapore Lyric Opera); Creonte in Haydn’s L’animo del filosofo in Russia; and Adonis Venus and Adonis at Wilton’s Music Hall. This season he took part in the Deloitte Ignite Festival at the Royal Opera House, curated by Stephen Fry, which celebrated the works of Wagner and Verdi.

At the Royal Opera House, Kimberg’s roles have included Flemish Deputy Don Carlo, Steuermann Tristan und Isolde, Potapych The Gambler, Marullo Rigoletto, 2nd Prisoner Fidelio, Moralès Carmen (filmed and broadcast in 3D) and Surintendant des Plaisirs Cendrillon (filmed for DVD and broadcast). He also covered the roles of Forester Cunning Little Vixen, Mr Astley The Gambler, Malatesta Don Pasquale, Ned Keene Peter Grimes and Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia.

Kimberg’s many oratorio performances include the major works of Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Dvořák, Vaughan Williams, Tippett, Britten, Orff, Puccini, Duruflé and others. In recital he has appeared at the Wigmore Hall and performed Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin and Schwanengesang in the Crush Room at the Royal Opera House. He was the recipient of the Joaninha Award in 2007.
