Melancholy of Resistance

The model for the libretto, which Guillaume Métayer developed together with director David Marton, is the novel of the same name by the Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai, published in 1989, which has captured the peculiar apocalyptic mood suggestively in words and in a great narrative flow. The attitude to life of our time comes into play, brought to life through thoroughly contemporary music by the French composer Marc-André Dalbavie, who is known for an aesthetic of sensitive sound sensuality. On the basis of text and composition, David Marton develops a “cinematic opera” in which traditions and techniques of musical theater come together with elements of film. A special cinematographic look at the art form of opera will open up new perspectives and dimensions.
