Synopsis

In the park of an old stately castle, Mario and his friends celebrate his bachelor's party, due to his wedding with a Lady imposed by his family. All his friends (men and woman) come to it. Among them, nice and fresh womanizer Gorón stands out prepared to anything; in particular, to seduce the daughter of the guard of the castle, Simeona, without any worry about Cristóbal, her fiancé, a gross laborer. Juan, the guard, interrupts the party warning about the arrival of a few gypsies asking to camp in the castle’s grounds. Mario and his friends invite them to come over and introduce themselves. Amapola – the so call queen of the gypsies – and her beauty, mesmerizes Mario. Alesko, their boss, tells the story about how they went by though these lands before, many years before, and how it was in this lands where Amapola’s mother passed away, and how these lands are sacred to them since then. They ask for permission to camp in there. Mario agrees and asks the gypsy to prepare a small party to entertain his guests. Mario tries to seduce Amapola but is he the one who falls for her. Ivan, a gypsy betrothed to Amapola, walks in and, jealous of the situation, makes a scene that takes to a bitter argument with her. Cristobl scolds Simeona for her attitude with Gorón, stressing that if he tries to approach her he will give him a good lesson. Gorón decides successfully to put his seductive capacities in practice with Simeona, but just when they´re about to kiss they are interrupted by Cristobal, who frightens them. Mario and his friends arrive, ready to give a serenade to the girls, when they hear a scream; a wild boar they had hurt during the hunt has attacked Amapola. They bring her and lay her in a bank; Mario remains captivated by her beauty. When he is going to kiss her, an enchantress from the camp - Mother Ulita - prevents it.  She tells the story of Amapola’s mother: how she had a love affair with a bad man, how Amapola was the fruit of that relationship, and how she cursed her own daughter before dying: any man who tries to kiss Amapola will die. Amapola wakes up, and flees away when she sees Mario, leaving him in disconcert. That night, after the party, Alesko decides that they all will pick up the road again soon. Ivan gets jealous and gets angrier when he learns that Mario and his friends are coming. Gorón flirts with the gypsies trying to teach them to dance the fox trot. Aleko and Ulita welcome Martio and his friends. Mario asks the girl in a date before they leave, and she accepts. Cristobal argues with Simeona as he censures her attitude, forbidding her to take a bath in the river. Gorón buys a bear fur to the gypsies to use as a disguised and get closer to Simeona as she takes a bath. The gypsies dance and celebrate to entertain the lords and ladies, until Ivan interrupts the party with his jealous. Gorón is chased by a real bear, confused by his disguise. Mario waits for his date with Amapola. When she arrives he can´t stop himself from kissing her. Ivan sees them kissing and tries to kill Mario, but Ulita intervenes. Even when she is in love with him, Amaploa cannot stay with Mario. She must continue her path with her people. She breaks Mario’s heart as she leaves. Mario, static, realizes that the curse has been fulfilled: he has kiss Amapola, and he is now dead inside.
