Leah Hausman has worked as a choreographer, movement director and associate director on both sides of the Atlantic. She trained in dance and drama in New York City, and at the École Jacques Lecoq in Paris.
As associate director and choreographer, for opera her work includes Benvenuto Cellini, The Damnation of Faust with Terry Gilliam for ENO, DNO, Barcelona, Rome; Giovanna d”Arco, Les Troyens for La Scala; Les Troyens, Aida, Le Nozze di Figaro, Elektra, Die Zauberflote, Il Turco in Italia and Rigoletto for the Royal Opera House; L’Elisir d’Amore, Gianni Schicchi and La Boheme for Glyndebourne; Roberto Devereux, Maria Stuarda, Il Trovotore for The Met Opera; Billy Budd, Rusalka, Il Trovatore for Chicago Lyric; Don Giovanni, Il Trovatre, Lohengrin and Les Troyens for San Francisco Opera; and several productions of La Clemenza di Tito for ENO, Copenhagen, Bremen and Aix; Also, work with most UK opera companies.
Leah’s theatre work includes Fortune’s Fool for The Old Vic London, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, Pedro the Magnificent and As You Like It for the RSC, The Game of Love and Chance for the National Theatre, Twelfth Night for the Goodman Theatre, Chicago, The Lamentations of Thel and The Phantom Violin for Theatre de Complicité, and Howard Goodall’s Great Dates for Channel 4 TV.
Leah has directed major revivals for opera houses including Rome, San Francisco, Oslo and Palermo, and the Royal Opera House and ENO in London. She has also directed opera and theatre at Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, and co-directed a number of plays with Neil Bartlett for the Royal Court Theatre, National Theatre and other theatres. In addition, she has been a movement teacher for singers and actors at all the academies in London and has worked with young artists in opera companies around the world.
