Ron Howell
Having graduated from the London School of Contemporary Dance Ron became a founder member of Arc Dance Company. He subsequently formed his own company, The Dance Collective, to develop his own work as a choreographer with a focus on theatre and abstract modern dance.
In addition to his skills in contemporary dance Ron also has extensive knowledge of music and dance history and this combination has formed the foundation of a distinguished career in opera spanning more than 20 years. To date he has worked in the world’s major opera houses including La Scala, Milan; The Metropolitan Opera, New York; Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; The Mariinsky, St Petersburg; Lyric Opera, Chicago and in 2007 he worked with Placido Domingo in Madrid in Handel’s Tamerlano, a production which went to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 2010. He has worked with many of the world’s leading directors including Francesca Zambello, Peter Stein, Keith Warner and Graham Vick with whom he has collaborated for more than 18 years. He has also worked with many of the world’s leading conductors including Sir Bernard Haitink, Valery Gergiev, James Levine, Riccardo Muti and Vladimir Jurowski.
Ron is an Associate Director as well as Movement Director & Choregrapher for Birmingham Opera Company and has been an Associate Director at Glyndebourne Festival Opera and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.
