Born in Caracas, he studied fine arts and dance in Barcelona and Munich and acting in the GMSD. opera directing credits include Schoenberg's Die Glückliche Hand (Liepzig), The Rake's Progress (Angers Nantes Opera), Un Ballo in Maschera (Bordeaux Opera), Tan Dun's Tea and Maxwell Davie's The Lighthouse (Neue Oper Wien), La Bohème and Rigoletto (Zomeropera Belgium), Salome in versions both by Strauss and Mariotte (Montpellier), the world premiere of Enric Palomar's Juana (Liceu, Barcelona, Halle), Tosca (Nationale Reisopera), The Rape of Lucretia and Le Duc d'Albe (Der Vlaamse Opera), Powder Her Face (Royal Opera House) and Alessandro  Scarlatti's Gli Equivoci nel sembiante (Betignano), Der Fliegende Holländer (Kiel), Luisa Miller (Deutsche Oper am Rhein), Curlew River and The Prodigal Son (Osterklang Festival in Vienna), La Damnation de Faust (St. Gallen), Le Grand Macabre (Neue Oper Wien), Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Landstheater Coburg), Philip Glass’s The Fall of the House of Usher (Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz), Carmen (Opéra-Théâtre de Metz, Opéra National de Lorraine and Deutsche Oper am Rhein), La Vie Parisienne (Opéra National de Lorraine), Don Giovanni (Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden) He has devised shows for Muziektheater Transparent based on the lives of Ivor Gurney and Erich Wolfgang Korngold.
